I am running for the San Luis Coastal Unified School District Board because I believe every student deserves an excellent education, a safe and supportive school environment, and access to the programs and opportunities that help them thrive. As a parent, community volunteer, Navy veteran, educator, and operations leader, I’ve seen how strong organizations succeed: by putting people first, using resources responsibly, communicating openly, and staying focused on the mission. I want to bring that experience to the School Board to protect what makes our schools exceptional while addressing difficult financial challenges, supporting teachers and staff, and ensuring every student, regardless of background, ability, or which school they attend, has the opportunity to succeed.
Student excellence begins with making sure every child has the support, instruction, and opportunities needed to thrive. Michael supports strong reading and math fundamentals, high expectations in every classroom, early intervention when students need extra help, and enrichment opportunities in science, technology, arts, music, and physical wellness so every child can discover their strengths.
A safe campus is the foundation for student learning and success. Michael believes school safety includes caring adults on campus, clear communication with families, respectful student behavior, anti-bullying efforts, and a positive school culture. He supports strong safety procedures, regular preparedness training, secure facilities, and close coordination with staff, families, and local first responders.
Fiscal integrity means making responsible decisions so every available dollar supports students, classrooms, and long-term success. Michael supports transparent budgeting, clear accountability, and thoughtful long-range planning. With executive leadership experience managing budgets and complex organizations, he is committed to ensuring school resources are directed where they make the greatest impact.
Strong schools are built through strong partnerships between parents, teachers, staff, and community members. Michael believes families should be welcomed as true partners in education through open communication, transparency from district leadership, meaningful opportunities for parent input, and a school culture that values collaboration and respect.
Every child deserves the opportunity to discover their strengths and build a future that fits their talents, interests, and goals. Michael supports preparing students for all pathways to success including college, skilled trades, military service, entrepreneurship, and technical careers, paired with strong academic fundamentals and enrichment opportunities that connect classroom learning to future careers and life skills.
The best learning happens when students are actively engaged with their teachers and classmates, not constantly looking at a screen. Michael will advocate for cell phone-free classrooms, reduced reliance on school-issued devices as a default, more hands-on learning through books, writing, discussion, and science labs, and digital responsibility education so students develop healthy screen habits and a healthy relationship with technology.
